Broncos Vs Vikings - Post Game

I didn't get to see any of the game as I was at work, did follow what I could online but that wasn't much, just play by play. I have seen the highlights of the game and have a number of observations to make from the game and other things that I noticed. As well as injury updates and more.

Today the Broncos took on the Vikings in a game that didn't see Brett Favre play. The Broncos got off to a strong start but multiple turnovers would be the downfall of the Broncos. Four turnovers on the next few series to end drives and the Broncos could not get out of that hole. For more check out below:

Observations:
The final roster also figures to show the fruits of the labors by several young defensive backs. Rookies Perrish Cox, Syd'Quan Thompson and Cassius Vaughn figure to make a group of defensive backs that could take 11 of the final 53 roster spots.

With Willis and Decker impressing it could mean the end of Stokley with the team.

It liked like Jason Hunter was getting a run with the first team and Moss was running with the twos. Will be interesting to see how this pans out.

Quinn was much improved in this game, but he still got sacked and was playing against 3rd stringers.

Moreno run the team out but didn't see any carries. But him, Clady and Buckhalter made it through the game.

I think Phonzy Smith had a good game, better than others, was good in coverage, his one mistake was the Walker TD, but he tripped up, before that he had done well, will be interesting to see how this works out.

Also was way too many turnovers in this game, the Broncos did well to stay in the hunt with so many turnovers.

The Broncos pass rush is still a work in progress without Dumervil, as you would expect if you lose the reigning sack champ. They do figure to be more aggressive in the regular season than they have shown in four preseason games. As such there were no sacks in this game for the Broncos.

Tebow's total preseason stats: 25-of-39 (64.1 percent), 344 yards, two touchdown passes, two interceptions, one touchdown run, an 87.98 passer rating and a move from No. 3 to No. 2 on the depth chart.

Studs:
Willis and Decker were Thursday’s stars. Willis had five receptions for 122 yards, the second-highest single-game yardage total for anyone in the league this preseason. Then Willis left, ceding the stage to Decker, who promptly ran through the Vikings, grabbing 10 passes for 114 yards, with many of them coming on crossing patterns.

Tim Tebow, after a nervous start, Tebow settled into a nice groove, completing 12-of-13 passes at one point, including a 39-yard touchdown strike to his main man, Matt Willis. Tebow also had a third-and-11 scramble for 14 yards and an impressive tackle after a teammate's fumble.

But there are times when the rookie sensation is more rookie than sensation. On Tebow's first play, he and center J.D. Walton messed up the snap exchange. The ball clanked off Tebow's hands, fell about 3 yards forward and bounced into the arms of Minnesota linebacker Erin Henderson. On the next series he threw an intercept, a ball that if thrown longer would have been a touchdown.

Injure Update:
During the game Tackle Ryan Harris departed with a left ankle injury and it could be serious and running back LenDale White was taken to the locker room with a right foot/ankle injury, he limped off the field but since he is suspended for 4 weeks he has a lot of time to rest up and heal.

Poll Results:
Also interesting to note the results of the poll that I have been running. It asked if you wanted a 18 game season. A few said no and some said they didn't care. But by a long way better people said yes, they want an 18 game season, very interesting.

Things I read:
Its time for the agents to shine

"Focus" the key for Broncos' Cox

Broncos have competition at corner

And remember this with the coming cuts, McD said this "“We’re going to keep the best players on the team, and if that means we go heavy at receiver or cornerback or somewhere else because we feel like we have better depth there, then that’s the decision we’re going to make.” Will be interesting to see who gets cut and who makes the roster. I will have another poll up tomorrow about it. That is it from me ~ Aussie Out!

  1. Well, I got one of those links to work so I was able to watch at least the 1st half. Got distracted for most of the 2nd half (my mom talks WAY too much, lol) so I was only able to see the very end. Whoop-de-doo!! Anyway, so yeah I heard all about Tebow in the 2nd half. I have no doubt he will end up as our backup for Orton and over time he'll get much better. He will do great things for this team in the future.

Good game overall. Had we not had so many turnovers (or better yet none at all) then he probably would've had a much better shot at winning this game.

  2. Reports say Lendale White is out for the season. Thats a real bummer.

I'm disappointed Chris Baker was cut. I loved him. Among others who were cut were Jaime Kerlew, Arlic Arnett, Nathan Overbay, Johnny Williams, Paul Duncan and Kory Sperry.

  3. fargas was cut last week. But I say we should re-sign JJ Arington. He got released by the eagles. Good trade on our part.
